Middle Mediastinal Thymoma

Middle mediastinal thymoma of unusual pathologic type.

Among the many sites of ectopic thymoma development, the middle mediastinum is the rarest in the English language literature we found only two case reports. We present a case of 69-year-old woman with slow-growing, ectopic middle mediastinum thymoma of an very unusual histological type, neither classified in the Müller-Hermelink nor the World Health Organization (WHO) classification.

A case of a middle mediastinal mass which proved to be a thymoma is presented. The diagnostic difficulties that middle mediastinal masses produce and the investigations used to delineate them are discussed.

Thymoma of the Middle Mediastinum

Thymoma is a common anterior mediastinal mass, although thymomas have occasionally been found in the neck, pulmonary hillus, or posterior mediastinum. But a thymoma within the middle mediastinum has rarely been reported. We report a thymoma arising in the middle mediastinum with a review of the literature.
